Barry Jarman RIP

Kensington District Cricket Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of South Australian cricket great, Barry Jarman.Barry played a significant role in pioneering junior cricket at the club. In 1977 Barry was the senior ‘captain-coach’ who played alongside the Under 16 cricketers in the early days of that competition. The competition itself was set up and sponsored by his sports store, Rowe and Jarman. He later became the club’s senior coach and his sons, Gavin and Jason, both played cricket for Kensington.Barry played his grade cricket with Woodville and now each season Kensington and Woodville play for the Barry Jarman Shield, highlighting the impact he had on both clubs. In recent years Barry has been a keen onlooker from the Parkinson Oval balcony, always willing to offer advice and support for the coaches and players. He remained extremely passionate about his cricket though never quite came to terms with John Palmer keeping up to the stumps to Jamie Panelli! The linked article outlines Barry’s friendship with another SA cricketing icon, Barry Nugget Rees.
SACA articleMore comprehensive details about Barry’s life and career can be found in Barry Nicholls’ (another Kensington Brown) book, For Those Who Wait: The Barry Jarman Story. Our deepest condolences go to the Jarman family; wife Gaynor, and children Kristen, Gavin, Jason and Erin.
