Grey Browns Ready for Season Opener: A Blend of Tradition and Fresh Faces
The Kensington District Cricket Club’s beloved Grey Browns teams are back in action this weekend, kicking off their 2024/25 season with fixtures against Grange. Known for their passion and camaraderie, the Grey Browns consist of past players, supporters, and new faces, all united by their love for the game and the club.
This season, the Grey Browns field two teams, a Division 1 side set to take on Grange at Col Waite Oval, and a Division 2 side playing Grange at Pedlar Reserve. The matches will begin at 12:30 PM, with players arriving earlier for preparations and afternoon tea.
It’s an exciting time for the Grey Browns, with several players making their long-awaited return to the Kensington fold. Jeremy Snoad and John Ryan, both of whom played Under 16s for the club back in the 1980s, will be making their senior debuts for the Browns. Additionally, there are a number of over-50s players making their first appearance in the Grey Browns colors, including Venkat Lingampally, Virendra Patel, Anthony Farrugia, Duck McDonald, and Irfan Hashmi. Their addition brings experience, enthusiasm, and a fresh dynamic to the squad.
The club also extends a warm thanks to the fill-in players from Uni Over 60s and Hills Fleurieu CC for stepping in and supporting the team. In veteran’s cricket, this spirit of community and helping each other out is what makes the game so special.
The Grey Browns are ready for another season of great cricket, shared memories, and a strong connection to Kensington’s history. We wish all the players the best of luck and hope to see many supporters down at the grounds this weekend!
