West End Men’s 1st Grade – Division One, Round 1: Kensington vs. Tea Tree Gully
Kensington Triumphs in Season Opener Against Tea Tree Gully
In a solid season start for Kensington’s 1st Grade, we clinched victory over Tea Tree Gully in a two-day encounter at Pertaringa Oval. After winning the toss, Kensington captain Joshua Doyle opted to bowl, aiming to capitalize on early conditions.
Tea Tree Gully’s 1st Innings
Tea Tree Gully was bowled out for 244 in 61.3 overs. Kensington’s bowling attack shone, particularly leg-spinner Lloyd Pope, who took 4 wickets for 88 runs in a relentless 22.3-over spell. Seamers Henry Thornton and Cameron Fatchen were equally effective, with Thornton taking 3 for 53 and Fatchen 2 for 57. Kensington’s fielders were sharp, with catches by Stephen Doheny, James Cleggett, and others, helping to limit Tea Tree Gully’s scoring opportunities.
Kensington’s 1st Innings
Kensington responded with a strong batting performance, reaching 4/245 in 84 overs and sealing the victory. Christian Leddicoat anchored the innings with an impressive 96 off 239 balls, supported by Henry Hunt, who contributed a well-paced 68. Stephen Doheny added 48 runs, while captain Joshua Doyle and Jason Sangha remained unbeaten to see Kensington through. Kensington’s top order was resilient, building partnerships that kept the pressure on Tea Tree Gully’s bowlers.
Ladder and Next Fixture
With this victory, Kensington’s 1st Grade team has started the season strongly, positioning themselves equal first on the ladder along side Sturt and West Torrens. Our A grade will face West Torrens away in our next two-day fixture on 2nd November, aiming to build on this momentum.
West End Men’s 2nd Grade – Round 3: Kensington vs. Port Adelaide
Kensington Overpowers Port Adelaide in One-Day Clash
Kensington’s B Grade team delivered a convincing win over Port Adelaide in a one-day fixture at Parkinson Oval. Winning the toss and bowling first, Kensington dismissed Port Adelaide for 177 in 44.4 overs, with standout performances from Harry Burgess and Ryan Percival.
Harry Burgess, playing his first B Grade game of the season after earning a deserved promotion from the C Grade, was sensational, taking 4 for 23 off 10 overs. His impact was immediate, bowling with precision and control. Ryan Percival added further pressure with his variation, claiming 4 for 44. Supported by tight spells from William Rice and Shivam Channa, Kensington’s bowlers dismantled Port Adelaide’s middle and lower order, with Caleb Hill (43) and Jamison Billing (34) being the main scorers for the visitors.
Kensington’s Successful Chase
In reply, Kensington reached 4/178 in 34.2 overs. Darcy McRostie anchored the chase with an unbeaten 76, showcasing excellent shot selection and composure. George Taylor-Yeates supported McRostie with an aggressive 54 off 46 balls to seal a comfortable six-wicket win for Kensington.
Ladder and Next Fixture
This victory boosts our B Grade to 5th on the ladder, and we look to carry this form into our next fixture which is a one dayer against West Torrens at Parkinson Oval on 2nd November.
Kensington C Grade Match Report – Round 3 – You Wouldn’t Read About it!
Kensington C Grade played a close game against Port Adelaide in Round 3 of the West End Men’s 3rd Grade competition, ultimately ending with a tied score of 172 each after 40 overs.
Kensington Innings
Kensington’s batting was led by captain Michael Davies, who anchored the innings with a well-compiled 50 off 67 balls, hitting seven boundaries. Newly promoted opening batsman Simon Schwerdt also provided stability at the top with a resilient 48 off 81 balls. Sangam Gautam (19 off 29) and Abraham Peter (13 off 25) contributed crucial runs, while Jamie Panelli (15 off 14) and Jamieson Payne (6 off 5) added quick runs in the lower order. Kensington finished at 8/172 from their 40 overs.
In the bowling department for Port Adelaide, Ashish Negi and Hunter Sargeant each took two wickets, with Sargeant claiming the crucial wicket of Schwerdt.
Port Adelaide Innings
Kensington’s bowlers worked hard to contain Port Adelaide’s chase. Jamie Panelli led the attack with an economical 2/13 from 8 overs, while Samarbir Singh’s 2/36 and James Bedford’s 1/17 provided vital breakthroughs. Wickets fell steadily, with notable dismissals by Sangam Gautam and Jamieson Payne, and the game reached a thrilling tie as Port Adelaide also ended at 8/172.
The draw sees us hold onto 4th spot on the ladder and our next match is a one dayer against West Torrens away at Henley High.
Kensington D Grade Match Report – Round 3
Kensington D Grade faced Port Adelaide at Col Waite, securing a solid win by successfully chasing down a target of 192 in 35.2 overs.
Port Adelaide Innings
Kensington’s bowlers showed excellent form as they bowled out Port Adelaide for 192 in just over 35 overs. Haydn Kamencak spearheaded the attack with an impressive 4/45 from his 8 overs, while Mitchell George’s 3/21 kept the opposition in check. Thomas Hodgkison and Henry Briggs chipped in with crucial wickets, restricting Port Adelaide’s batters despite a strong 55-run innings from Josh Greber.
Kensington Innings
In response, Kensington’s chase was led by a powerful performance from Matthew Hopkins, who anchored the innings with a superb 88, featuring 12 boundaries and two sixes. Opener Mitchell George provided a steady start with 80 runs, hitting seven boundaries. Together, Hopkins and George set up a strong foundation, and Kensington comfortably reached the target, finishing at 5/233 in 40 overs.
Kensington’s comprehensive batting display, paired with an all-round bowling effort, made for a memorable victory ensuring we stayed equal first on the ladder.
